I am 18 and looking to buy a sport touring bike that is good for long trips and I know some people will say it is a bad bike to start with because of how many cc it has, But I have a big build and I am tall and I rode a few bikes before. So do you think I can handle it, It is this one or the (Hayabusa) JK|||The Bandit is a great bike. Although, I tend to think of it as a bike you grow into rather than a first bike. You could "start" on the 1250 as a first bike, but that is a tall and heavy bike if you haven't already ridden dirt bikes or smaller street bikes. I owned two 400s and a 750 before buying my Voyager 1200 touring bike. I could just as well skipped the second 400 and the 750. The first two bikes were much the same. The750 was taller and almost as heavy as my Voyager. So, my advice is to hold off on the Bandit until you've ridden something used, smaller, cheaper and lighter for a year or two. If you've already put in your time learning the controls and riding basics, then go for it.
PS
You were kidding about the Hayabusa. Right? Everyone knows the B-King is the better sport tourer. JK|||this is not a question of will you crash but when. wear all the safety gear all of the time. statistics show that beginner riders on large bikes have a high percentage of accidents.|||Bikes are not shoes, you do not have to worry too much about the fit (except at extreme size or petitness) 鈥?do not use your size as an excuse to buy a bike that is way beyond your capability.
So, no you cannot handle it.|||Reid, like the others have suggested, this is not a starter bike. I would like to suggest that you find a used bike no bigger than a 650 and drive it for a year or so and get used to riding. Motorcycle accidents are not an "if" but a "when" and you will increase your likelihood of calamity by choosing a Motorcycle above your skill level.|||No it isn't. You are a beginner, so you don't even know if you can handle a bigger bike. Or even if you will like riding those long distances. Because of your large build I would suggest a KLR650, it is very tall and comfortable. It has touring capabilities, and a good re-sell if you decide you don't like it. Along with that, the insurance will be quite low because of it being a dual sport.
Check out www.youtube.com/rebelyell91 he has multiple videos of all the modifications you can do to the bike as well as videos of it performing out there on the road.
