Bandit 1200 for a 15,000 mile tour of Europe?

Will this bike be suitable for a trip like this?|||Bandits are great bikes. Make sure it has some sort of luggage to carry your stuff and a windscreen.

Personally, in Europe, I would look for a smaller bike - VStrom 650, BMW 800GS or similar. There are fewer high speed roads, lots of narrow streets and lots of tight twisty mountain passes that make a smaller lighter bike rewarding.|||Are you talking about the model with the fairing, if so it will cope but there are other bikes that would be more suitable, depending on budget.

Possibly look for a bike that has a shaft drive to minimise service costs although a properly adjusted and lubricated chain would have to be replaced about once during the trip. A bike with a good availability for hard luggage is also Essential. My experience is it pays to have hard luggage for the extra security it gives for your belongings.

Another thing is comfort and riding position, make sure you a the right size for the bike.

I have ridden many thousands of miles, both touring in europe and as a courier and have found comfort is a big consideration for serious touring.

One surprising bike that I have ridden which cruises at high speed, handles very well, stops like a sports bike and has by far the most comfortable seat of any bike I have ridden is the Aprilia RST Futura, the best tourer I have found and knocks spots off any VFR I have also ridden.|||Depends upon how long you have to do it, and how comfortable you want to be. Three things that this bike does not have that would be an asset are hard bags, large fairing, and shaft or belt drive. The riding position is comfortable enough on this bike. Personally, I would go for a sport tourer like the ST1300, BMW, FJR or Concours, albeit at a higher cost, or I would attempt to arrange the purchase of a Bimmer over there.

A trip like this is a very personal experience, and therefore the bike of choice is different for different folks. That said, just about no one likes to deal with the mess of chain maintenance every day.|||Depends how old the bike is.If it's fully serviced and you maintain the chain and change the oil and filters it'll be ok but the brakes and tyres wont last 15000. Expect 4000miles for rear tyre and 7000 for front, brakes 10000.|||It will but remember it will need lots of tyres and servicing in that mileage including one major service with valve and throttle body checks - as all bikes would though|||cracking bike but i would not want to do a 15000 mile tour on mine . get a BMW or similar !|||as the bike is a sports tourer i can see no problem|||You would be better of with a Honda VFR1200.
