Is it a good idea to go from a 125cc bike to a 600cc bike?

basically i have been riding a 125cc bike for 6 months now, %26amp; i still have 6 months insurance left so will be riding for a year and want to know whether it is a good idea to get a 600cc bike like a honda hornet or suzuki bandit (not a sports bike, insurance is f*****g ridiculously high) after a years worth of experience. if not why not, if so whys that. also i have been out with my dad and he has been riding behind me a few times and he says i am a good rider, and he used to be a motorcycle instructor so with this in mind please answer my question, also no stupid answers please, they're just a waste of peoples time. thanks|||I had to deal with the same choice,"f*****g ridiculous" quotes for sports bikes. I went for a Suzuki SV650s, similar to the hornet or bandit. Since moving to the bigger bike ive come to appreciate that driving, particularly bike riding because of the extra danger, can be divided into two distinct elements. Technique and road-craft. Technique is what you would attribute to a teenager who rides motocross or even a 125 track racer. He can change direction, accelerate, brake and wheelie very well. If you took this same rider onto the road he would try to overtake on the outside lane and someone from the middle lane would kill him. He would be too fast and incorrectly afford every driver with having the same technical ability he does. Unfortuanately they dont and often drive into bikes. Road-craft is road reading, primarily done with the eyes, not the body, involving forward planning. If you can read a road well then even if you have nerves climbing onto a big bike you will be safe. It will take time for your technique to develop so take it easy and soon you will have both skills and be a good rider. Good luck and take it easy!|||Where are you?

How old are you?

What is your licence status?

Do you have a full licence, have you had it long enough to require a restricted bike?

Have you checked the insurance on a Hornet (possibly cheaper than the Bandit which was/is popular with the wheelie streetfighter crowd)?|||If you're confident and ride with common sense, sure you can get whatever you think you can handle.|||I know a kid that is 16 and owns a 1800 cc Honda Vtx! But when he rode my 125cc 2 stroke dirtbike he almost went over the back! I think you could handle any cruiser motorcycle!|||go for it.

i rode a 125 and can handle a 600, just dont take all that extra horse power for granted.|||Oh yes.|||blinding! bring it on
