Is 1200cc's too much for me for my first bike?

I have the opportunity to trade my car for a '03 bandit 1200, its a pretty nice looking bike with a good maintenance record.

I've been mudding and done some small jumpin on 125's an 250's but that is dirtbikes, and im not sure how they compare. i hear weight has an issue here, i am 165 lbs but i am pretty strong and work out.

I thought since i am just starting to get into street bikes the best people to ask would be the ppl already riding..

plz note: i am not a dumb *** and i do want something fast that i will not get bored of.|||Yes, it is too big for a first road bike.

Why the heck would anyone want a bike capable of 148 mph to use on the public highway anyhow?|||there's no such thing as to much, because once you get used to it you'll want more, just remember not to go all out the first time you get on!|||Probably not,

I got my first dirtbike last year, And it's a ktm rxc 620 Sprung for a big dude and I'm not a bike dude. I went down a lot at first but it's a dirt bike.

Just respect the bike.

A streetbike is nice to have but the dirt is better.

I'd wish they'd stop blacktopping all these road, it's causing GLOBAL WARMING.|||This one guy never made it out of the dealer's lot. He slammed it into the car he drove in and died..|||The 1200 Bandit isn't as powerful as a GSX1000 but powerful enough. Lots of torque and good horsepower. It's a great all-around bike. Since you aren't completely new to bikes I'd say go for. The power isn't that overwhelming. It's more predictable and steady than the edgy nature of a full-on repli-racer.|||1200ccs on a cruiser is just medium sized. They carry their weight very low and they are very easy to manage. 1200ccs on a standard is HUGE.

I don't know if you'll have trouble holding it up, probably not, but it won't be as easy to ride as your little dirt bikes. It will be a chore plodding through the city, it will really wear you out until you get used to it. You may decide it just isn't worth the trouble.

On the freeway, OTOH, it will be heaven on earth. Strong, stable, relaxed cruising. Want to pass someone going 80 mph? No problem. Drop down TWO gears and blip the wrist and it will feel like someone slapped you on the back.

A lot of people seem to think that no matter how much power you have, you want more. I have to admit a nice powerful bike is certainly fun. You don't often get the chance to go 150 mph, but the 'roll on' acceleration is really a thrill. You have to decide if that's worth all that extra weight. In town, or on a narrow twisty back road, its like riding with a passenger all the time.

Also the Bandit is a pretty nice bike. I think it's underrated by most people. If it's been well taken care of, that's especially good.

So you have both pro and con. 8^)|||if you divide it by 4 you might live long enough to enjoy your biking.|||1200 bandit is NOT a beginners bike...

if you're in the UK you've got to have your full license and there is no way in H拢ll you are successfully going to get it restricted to 33 BHP if you've only got a restricted license.

It is just sub 100 BHP in standard but most are breathed on and ours was capable of 150 mph and produced just over 110 BHP. at 4500 it purred along the motorway and A roads at 70 MPH and the throttle was hardly off the stop, a knuckle wrapping throttle twist has any same man hanging on for grim death and instant G force accelleration/

No its not the fastest bike No it isn't the most powerful

It isn't a hyabusa... But it is the MOAB... Mother Of All Bikes..

It deserves respect..|||If you have no street riding experience you need to get into a street riding course. The braking is really different. 1200 cc's from a 250 is too much. It doesn't matter how strong you are, you need to transition to a larger bike not just grab something that is 5-10 times the power of what you are used to.|||Go to a Suzuki dealership and sit on one of the '09 models.

If the weight isn't to intimidating, the engine size shouldn't be that much of a concern.

The power to weight ratio is similar to a 250 2stroke MX bike.

Hit the gas and it GOESSSSSSSSSS|||The 1200 Bandit is definitely a fast bike. Just remember to take it easy with the throttle till you get used to riding it. You twist the grip to hard on that bike and the front wheel leaves the ground easily.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQazYio95鈥?/a>|||Nah, it's not too big.

Remember the bike will only go as fast as you want it to. Take it easy at first and you will quickly get used to it.

As for weight, don't worry, i did my DAS on a Honda CB500 and jumped straight onto a BMW R1100RT, which weighs in at about 290kg. The weight will only catch you out if you are not ready for it.

As soon as you start moving the weight all but dissapears anyway so you forget about it, but you have to remember it again when stopping at lights etc!|||yes 1200 cc's is too fast, I would go down to 1000 cc's such as a Honda CBR1000RR, or a Yamaha R1, not as fast
