When is it time for a passenger?

Ive been riding for about 2 years now. And for the longest time i keep getting bugged for rides on my motorcycle. But I dont want the responsibility for killing someone if anything happens... I feel pretty comfortable on my bike, but dont know how much different it is with a passenger. Its more of a sport touring bike, a Suzuki Bandit. I see guys with passengers all the time around my age. Anyone got advice?|||Great question! Coincidentally, I feel that two years is about how long one should ride before taking on that additional responsibility. Riding with a passenger is VERY different. You're adding a lot of weight up high and rearward. You will notice almost no difference in taking curves. However, braking and acceleration will feel very different, and you will have to concentrate a lot at first on doing them smoothly. Otherwise, you both experience the dreaded "helmet click". The biggest difference will be in moving off from a standstill, and coming to a stop. At those times when the bike is hardly moving, it will feel much less stable. Also, you will need to keep the bike very close to vertical at a stop, or else you will have difficulty avoiding a tip-over.

Make sure your passenger does the following:

-wears adequate protective gear;

-stays in line with the bike--no leaning;

-hangs on! A backrest is also a great idea;

TELL your passenger when you are ready for him/her to mount/dismount. The best way for the passenger to mount is to hold your left shoulder, place left foot on peg, and swing right leg over. Should the passenger wish to look ahead while riding, the safe way is to always look to the inside of any curve.|||Accelerate slowly. As James pointed out the passenger moves the bikes center of gravity rearward and higher. The bike is more likely to pop a wheelie and you might not be prepared for it.|||yes teach your passenger before they ride with u what to expect and teach them how to turn the corner to lean with u not against u and anything else i didnt think of just think of a ride and what u do during that|||For the most part it is no different, tell pass to lean into the turns.
