hi all my bike wont start after being left about 3 months. I bought it but didnt ride it at all as i hadnt passed my test yet, i was informed it was a good runner and i had seen it run and left it at that.
I have changed the fuel and put about 3/4拢 of fresh fuel in, i have completely cleaned the carbs and replaced the needle valves as adivsed by a mate. I changed the spark plugs and the charged the battery, the only thing about the battery is that it will be like 12.9volts when full charged and when i try to start it for a few moments it will be like 12.0v and then after i start it again it will be 11.9v.
Ive charged it up again since and nothing still, although ive managed to get it started yesterday and it seemed to run fine except after idling for about 10 minutes the idle got lower and it was really running crap, lumpy and did not want to rev at all. And if you try to rev it, it would cut out. It would re-start but the same thing happens again.
Not sure what to do next, so im after some help please thanks chaps|||Are you sure your engine kill switch isn't engaged? Just a thought.|||Take the air filter out and try it ?|||sounds like battery is knackerd, fully charged it should be holding 14.4v.
you may need to fine tune air/fuel mixture screw|||Hi
I would say you probably had issue's with your battery but looking at what your telling us it seems like you have a fuel /air mixture or fuel starvation problems.
As long as it now starts every time but the issue is with running i would ignore the battery for now.
If you have change needle and cleaned all the cabs and they are probably set up as a bank of four you may also thrown them out of balance,
Make sure all your fuel delivery is correct, check that all your carbs are full of fuel, check the vacuum pipe for the fuel tap from the tank is fitted ok or not split as this will affect the the fuel delivery.
Have you got a common rail connected choke rod which actuates all the choke 's together, make sure all these pull in and out together.
Also check you dont have air leaks from one you have removed the carbs, make sure all the clips are tight around the carb inlets in to the engine and also the clips from the air box or filter so its air intake is through the correct route as a air leak can also cuase very erratic running conditions.
make sure sure all the air or vacuum pipes are on and are not leaking.
its easy to miss a tube or pipe. and it can cause havock when running.
Check all the HT leads are fitted correctly and the "snap" on to the top of the plug.
Hope some of this help,
if it does or not post if it help and if not we will post more options.
Regards|||big daddy said pretty much everything so go through his list.
id say play around with the A/F screws a little. Also like big daddy said it could definitely be an air/vacuum leak.
to check for this (might be easier with the tank off,try both though) take some wd-40 and while the bike is on and running, spray wd-40 (mist it, dont use the straw) around the carbs. all around the hoses and fittings.
IF your idle rpm changes when you do this( i think it should rise..either way) then you have a vacuum leak somewhere as the wd-40 temporarily filled that leak
that should help you rule out vacuum leaks
