Help with suzuki rm125 dirt bike problem?

I got a 1985 suzuki rm125 today, for only $80, but it has no spark. Im sure i need a new cdi box, but im having trouble finding one. Bike bandit has one but its $230, which i think is to much. DOse anyone know where to get parts for it (i.e. cdi unit)?|||http://www.ebay.com|||try bikeboneyard.com|||i would recommand a place called oz cycle salavage in ottawa kanas the own that comes to mind at the time do a search type used dirt bike parts alot of them have nation wide data base if the dont have one one hand the can find one for you also try a place called stators r us the rebuild them could save some money in long run seeing how used parts dont come with a warranty GOOD LUCK|||Bite the bullet and pay the money for a new one. If you get one from a salvage yard, there's NO guarantee that it will work and you won't be able to return it.


NUMBER ONE IMPORTANT!!! ---Make sure that is the problem. Even when bought brand new, electrical parts are NOT returnable.


Buy a shop manual and test every component before buying a CDI box.


--Stator


--Flywheel (it could have sheared the wood rift key, the magnets could have been damaged by the last owner).


--Pulse generator


--Coil


--High tension lead (spark plug wire, it might not be making a good connection to the coil or spark plug cap).


--Spark plug cap (they do go bad).


--Kill switch


--Electrical connections, wires, ground

I put an analog one on my 1977 Maico AW440-and can retard the timing compared to points. It starts easily-and revs slightly quicker.





The model for your 85 rm 125 may even be digital. Don't just get a new one(if you can find one)-get a PVL they have a 90 day exchange policy too. Hang on to that 85, as it is a "bomber" class mxer now, but will likely be the in the next generation of mx bikes allowed in vintage racing.
