I am replacing the engine in my 400cc Suzuki Bandit and have been told that the engine from a 600cc Honda Hornet will fit but don't want to rush into buying it in case it turns out to more bother than its worth. Does anyone know if it will fit. Any help would be most welcome. Thanks|||Motorcycle engines are not plug and play. You can not easily swap an engine from one model to a different model. Things like motor mounts, linkages, and wiring won't match up. Many times the physical dimensions of the larger motor won't allow it to fit into the smaller frame withou some major frame modifications. Many times there will even be enough differences from the same model bike but a different model year that can make a swap difficult.
Pretty much the only engine that will easily fit this frame is another 400cc Suzuki Bandit that is the same model year.|||Go to your bike with a measuring tape to get some basic physical measurements of clearances as well as spacing of mounting points, and then do the same on a potential donor bike, or of the motor is out, measure the motor and do the same sort of thing. You might not be ale to fit or you may be extremely lucky, odds are that as they are diff makes, you won't
One thing that is important in engine mixing/matching is frame clearance, sometimes the mountpoints might work, but there's enough frame difference that the larger motor wont fit without modifications to the chassis
Another thing to consider is the alignment of the output sprocket and the rear sprocket, they must be within a couple of mm of each other else you run the risk of putting a load on the bearings or chain that it wasn't designed to cope with.|||No is the answer in short, not exactly, the engine mounts/location of bolts are likely to be different especially mixing a honda engine with a suzuki frame, have you seen the honda engine as yet to see where the mounting bolts are..and tried working out if they are even in the right place for your suzuki frame?...you may also need to widen the frame for the engine to fit in..|||Instead of asking the random lurkers here find a owner鈥檚 club website and ask them, you are more likely to get helpful advice.|||Like I would know !!! Never ask your dad.
